Jodie Hartman-Ball for Clear Creek County Commissioner, District 3

Jodie is a 3rd generation Colorado Native and very excited to run for Clear Creek County Commissioner in District 3 for 2024!

She was raised in Idaho Springs in the house her parents still live in. Graduating from the Clear Creek School District in the 80's Jodie decided to stay in Clear Creek and start her own family. Her and her husband Shane raised their four children just three doors from where she grew up.  Jodie now has grandchildren growing up in this great county. Her husband Shane currently works at Henderson Mine, so she knows the struggles some are facing from housing to commuting from long distances.

Jodie has been an active community member since 1986!

Jodie said, "There are many challenges that Clear Creek faces, and I feel many of our voices have been left behind over the years. Concerns from Evergreen to the Divide need to be addressed. We need to continue to balance change while protecting our beautiful surroundings. We need affordable housing, childcare, and elderly services.  Growth needs to be managed, and the current residents should have some protections for their way of life. Folks shouldn't have to worry about being displaced should developers come in to make a quick buck.
1. Regulating and enforcing codes/laws on STR's
2. Protecting our workforce by trying to find ways of affordable housing, wages and help them get out of poor living conditions. Work with our top employers to come up with solutions for workforce housing that gives people a way to build equity and try to build these developments in municipalities that have current services and infrastructure. Seek out grants to help with new programs to retain and build new affordable housing and try and impose deed restricted housing for the local workforce. I strongly support Section 8 housing, habitat and other programs to help out those less fortunate. Support trailer park residents that want to buy the land they live on privately so they don't get displaced.
3. Attract young families by working with our partners on affordable housing and try to identify housing sitting vacant that might be a good fit for a remodel and enter back into the housing market. Help protect programs that families use and encourage more. Work with our legislators for grants to help with childcare.
 4. Protect our aging community and make sure they can afford to stay in Clear Creek County. Making sure programs for our elderly are supported with funding and what they need to continue.
5. Balance tourism with residents' way of life. Quality of life for our communities is a very important topic to me. Monetizing the services tourists enjoy in our county need to be looked into. Working with state legislators on supporting bills that could grant the county to tax tourist services like rafting, ski tickets and other services provided. Our environment and wildlife need to be protected from overuse.
6. Make sure basic services like fire, EMS, Sherriff, Road and Bridge etc. have the support and funding they need so that locals don't have to sacrifice them.
7. Keep informed on issues we face with I-70. The impacts residents endure and make sure our residents are represented.  Fighting to make sure our communities don't sacrifice their way of living. Noise, air quality, safety and congestion are some of the issues that need to be addressed.

Things I have already done: Talk to one of our biggest employers in the county, Henderson Mine Community Relations Dept, about how we can be partners in finding good solutions for workforce housing.
Building relationships with state legislators to work on laws that could benefit Clear Creek County so that the county can tax services for tourists more appropriately and lessening the burden for the Clear Creek residents.
Attend many meetings including BOCC, BOCC/CCFA with Municipalities, Economic Development, Tourism Board, SOLVE, C4 Connectors, local town/city meetings and many more!

Are you tired of seeing your tax dollars go to the big governments down the hill only to see nothing in return? We need representatives to fight to bring those dollars back to our communities. I am standing up and fighting for everyone, especially for those whose voices haven’t traditionally been heard. I will protect our way of life while building a better place to live, work and play!"

Hobbies Jodie likes to enjoy

When not volunteering

Jodie likes to enjoy her family anyway she can whether it's following them up to ski at Loveland or paddle boarding at Georgetown. She enjoys growing her own food as much as possible. Last year the garden produced over 200 lbs. of tomatoes, 150 lbs. of potatoes and many more yummy vegetables. She starts the seeds inside for an early start and then plants them outside when it's safe from frost. She collects the seeds in the Fall to start the whole process over again the next year. She cans her own food and educates others on high altitude gardening! Her family raises chickens and turkeys as well. Non-GMO Organic food has been a #1 way of life that she has taught her children and friends. Recycling is also a huge part of Jodie's way of life. If it can be made at home, there is no need to go to the store for it. Mayonnaise, ketchup, salsas, chilis and so much more gives me the satisfaction that I know what all the ingredients are. I also know that every can I process, I keeps one more plastic container from being made. Being a Beekeeper was a dream for many years and now I have been a Beekeeper for 14 years. I mentor others so they can have their own apiary.

Learning all of these skills has given Jodie the patients and dedication that she will continue as a County Commissioner.
If there is a way, she will find it!
